A quick chat about weight loss drugs. Just my thoughts on them in general and the direction we are taking with these.
Now as you’d probably expect I’m not a huge fan. I lost over five stone, didn’t find it particularly difficult. I realise that many people did find it difficult so that’s why I set up Gregg Wallace health to show people how easy it really could be.
I perfectly understand the appeal of these drugs. If you’re overweight and have been overweight for years and you’ve tried diets and they simply don’t work. In fact, I’ve always known that diets don’t work but there you go.
Anyhow, if you’ve tried lots of different ways to lose weight found it uncomfortable Than the idea of just injecting yourself and all the weight coming off must be difficult to ignore.
The drugs are an appetite suppressant. This means you just don’t want to eat. The problem is your body is designed to eat. Your body also needs proper nutrition. It needs fats. It needs carbs and it needs protein.
It was always a much better idea to learn to eat big healthy meals than it was to have endless snacks and takeaways, but that is the situation our society has found itself in. If we’d have spent some money on food education so that people could cook simple healthy delicious meals we’d be a healthy nation, but there you go I don’t have a magic wand.
If you are considering taking weight loss drugs or are taking a dose of them now, you’re obviously aware that you can’t stay on them forever.
Now you could well lose weight if you take these drugs, but what’s going to happen when you stop taking the drugs? people are gonna be in the same position they were when they did drastic diets, like fasting or keto. What happens when you stop? this is the big question.
I think we all know what’s going to happen when you stop taking the drugs. Your appetite is going to come back and you’re going to go back to the same food habits you had before, that made you put on weight in the first place.
These drugs are relatively new. They are not getting a fantastic press, and we are already getting stories of people that can no longer take the drugs and are putting lots of weight back on again.
So what I’m gonna suggest is this. I’d like everybody to attempt a healthier lifestyle before they turn to the drugs, obviously that’s what I’m going to say.
But if you are tempted to take the drugs please do realise that you can’t take them forever. At some point you are going to have to learn How to prepare simple healthy filling meals, for yourself that you enjoy. In fact if you gave that a go first, you wouldn’t need to turn to the drugs in the first place.
I’ll tell you a true story . I have a friend who spent a lot of money on a gastric sleeve. It worked, she lost a lot of weight. What did upset her was after the operation they explained to her that she would now have to learn about decent nutrition and healthy meals. At that point she realised if she had done that in the first place, she would’ve saved herself a lot of money.
If you’re tempted to take these drugs please do realise at some point you’re going to have to learn about healthy eating. If you’re going to learn about healthy eating, why not give that a go before you reach for the drugs?
If you are taking the drugs if you’re not taking them. Learning good Nutrition and learning how to prepare healthy meals is vital for your health whatever you do. Gregg Wallace health is here to help you. Healthy eating, preparing delicious meals at low cost easily, is what we’ve been doing for years.
