Gregg's Blog - Carbs

Carbs are not an issue! Carbs are not bad! Carbs do not make you fat!

Let’s look at the evidence. Today I am 12 stone 10 pounds. I’m less than 18% fat. I’m also 60 years old and very proud of my physical health. I also eat a lot of carbs.

We are told regularly that we should eat a Mediterranean diet. We are told that’s incredibly healthy diet and one that we should learn from.

The French eat four times more bread than we do. The Spanish have their famous paella and potatas bravas. Look at the amount of pasta and pizza the Italians get through.

Let’s look at some Asian countries and their use of rice. The Japanese, some of the healthiest people on the planet consume far more rice than we do.

Faced with this sort of information It’s a little bit difficult isn’t it to keep demonising carbs.

I’m not a doctor but I study a fair amount of nutrition and I work with some incredibly good nutritional therapists.

Here’s the science behind the carbs. Carbohydrates are our bodies major choice of fuel. We burn the carbs and then when they run out we start to burn fat, if this also runs out we start to burn our muscle.

So the idea of course in no or low carb diet is that if you don’t consume the carbs, then your body will burn the fat. That’s the principal anyway.

I don’t like this at all in any way. For a start fruits and vegetables contain carbohydrate, so are we seriously suggesting we shouldn’t eat fruits and vegetables?

Also carbohydrates are some of our favourite foods are we seriously not going to eat bread pasta or potatoes?

Some may say well I could cut them out for a short period of time in order to lose weight. Well, what’s going to happen when you start eating the cards again? Are you just accepting that you’ll put on the weight again or is something magical going to happen?

Your body requires fibre. Your body also requires a large variety of plant -based foods for gut health.. I’m really sorry but these plant-based foods contain Carbohydrates.

Cutting carbohydrate from your diet is not a sustainable thing to do and also it’s not a healthy thing to do.

Doing something radical like cutting out a whole macro nutrient food group is not a good idea and neither is it sustainable. If something isn’t sustainable That by definition means you won’t keep it up.

If you want to lose weight healthily and naturally. If you want to lose weight without injecting yourself, you have to learn about healthy eating.

I am here to tell you it is possible to lose weight while eating carbs. I am here to demonstrate to you, you can lose weight without being hungry or without exercising. I so want to explain to you how you can eat really lovely food until you are full up and still lose weight.

It’s what we’ve been doing for years, it’s the reason why we have the backing of so many health experts.
