We are creatures of habit. We find routines for ourselves. We are comfortable with these routines. We use them to bring a sense of order to our lives. These routines help us navigate through a lifestyle that can sometimes seem chaotic.
I want you to just stop for a moment and consider the routines in your life that you may not have been aware of before.
Do you have the same bathroom routine every morning? Is there a morning routine? Personally, I always use the toilet, then get in the shower and go downstairs and make coffee. I don’t brush my teeth until I’ve got out of the shower. Then I always take my coffee into my office.
Do you have a routine for when you get into work? Is there a routine in your work and how you tackle the day by day tasks that come your way. Importantly, what is your evening routine? I know a very successful guy who always takes his tie off before he goes through his front door. It’s that removing of the tie that is the difference between him at work and him at home.
The point I’m trying to make is the knowingly or unknowingly we have routines in our life. These routines are incredibly comfortable.
Now there is likely very likely indeed to be routines around the foods that you eat. It will be the routine as well as the food that is comfortable to you.
Do you always stop in a coffee shop and buy a pastry? Do you often pour yourself a drink when you get home from work or Friday nights takeaway nights?
We are all of us very different with our own set of habits and routines, but we all of us have routines. Some of these routines are incredibly helpful to us Some not so helpful. Some may be having a negative effect on our health and lifestyle.
Personally my exercise routines are incredibly positive my weekend drinking maybe not so positive.
Routines as I’ve said are comfortable and changing these routines maybe at first uncomfortable.
I want you to consider your routines That may not be positive. That’s the first step, identifying the issue means we are halfway to resolving the issue.
Now what new routine or changes to the original routine need to be made. If you are used to stopping in the coffee shop buying a milky coffee and having a pastry that goes with it. How can that routine be changed? Can we stop the milky coffee and change it to a herbal tea, can we make sure that we’ve already had breakfast so that we don’t then want the pastry you have your own routines. You have to develop your own changes and new ones.
Change can be uncomfortable. We are more than aware of that. Would you like the really really good news ?
If you accept and I hope you do that routine routines are comfortable I want you to consider this for a moment. The new routines that you are about to implement won’t take very long to become embedded. This means that your new healthier routine will become your new comfortable.
I really want you to consider this. This is incredibly important. In terms of your health and weight loss it may be the most important.
The difference between overweight people and slim people are the habits or routines that they have got into.
Change we know can be uncomfortable But please it won’t take long till your new routine routines seem incredibly natural, so natural in fact that you are no longer even considering them. They just happen. As this develops and as your new routines become your new normal you will look in the mirror one day and realise you look completely different.
