Party Time - Merry Christmas!
Party Time - Merry Christmas!
It’s the festive season! A time of celebration and yes, I have to admit it, the time of indulgence, but I think we should have a conversation about this.
Personally, I think we should give up on the idea of losing weight over the Christmas period. You probably didn’t expect us to say that did you?
There’s so much temptation and there’s so much socialising going on. However, even though we may not be losing weight, that does not mean to say we need to put on a lot of weight. None of us wants to finish this holiday season full of regrets.
Here’s some practical tips to enjoy yourself but come through this without being sad at the end.
Boozing is obviously a big one. When you are out at parties, you don’t have to drink and if you can come up with a good reason why you are not drinking, people won’t bully you into it.
Driving so that you don’t drink at all is a fabulous idea. Or pretending that you have your own strong reasons you can claim that you never mix work and drink. You can claim that you never ever drink on weekdays. You can say it’s a thing of yours that you never have a drink until Christmas Eve. If you’re firm in your convictions, people don’t know whether that’s true or not but they will, I promise you, leave you alone.
On the subject of booze, I will leave you with this thought and I am deadly serious. I have never ever regretted not having a drink.
Your Christmas dinner is actually far healthier than you think. Turkey is lean meat, there’s lots of veg and Yorkshire puddings aren’t that bad. The only thing you need to be wary of are the amount of roast potatoes.
Sweets! Really? Come on just stay away. Don’t say "oh well it’s Christmas" just stay away from the chocolates.
If you are going to drink or indulge in a Christmas pudding, savour it. Get the most from the experience. Consider the flavours and the textures as you’re having them. That’s what you’re having them for right? The enjoyment. Savour it. It will slow you down.
If you have friends or family around you, try going out for some lovely long walks. Put your hats and your scarves on, get some fresh air and get some gentle, enjoyable activity.
There are a number of blogs that exist on the website right now that go into detail about alcohol consumption and the danger of sweet snacks. If you are away from work, do yourself a favour and leisurely read some of these.
Enjoy yourself first and foremost, but try not to hurt yourself while you’re doing it.
