"I truly believe that our journey to health and weight loss is made significantly harder if we don't cook"
We must cook to take control of our diet. Cooking doesn't have to be stressful or time-consuming. Nor does it mean eating bland or boring food to be healthy. At GreggWallace.Health, we have hundreds of recipes that are quick, simple, easy to cook, and full of flavour. Reflecting on when I was much larger, I attribute it to three things: alcohol, lack of exercise, and no cooking, relying entirely on takeaways and eating out.
If we want to become fitter, healthier, and slimmer, we must reduce alcohol consumption. Exercise, while not the most critical of the three, is incredibly beneficial. It doesn't have to be an hour of running or heavy weightlifting; light cardio at home or long walks will do. The third factor, cooking, is unsurprisingly the most significant. We won't become healthier or lose weight if we don't cook our meals. While there may be some healthy takeaways, generally, they're not good for us.
So, what's stopping us from cooking? Most people cite a lack of time. But when I hear 'I don't have time to cook', I interpret it as 'I don't know how to cook'. That's why we have filmed all of our recipes at GreggWallace.Health, to help those who lack confidence in the kitchen. Our recipes take roughly 30 minutes to prepare (some only take 5 minutes in total). We need to change our perception of the kitchen and cooking. If we see it as a chore, we'll never enjoy it and will avoid it, leading us back to takeaways. Let's view the kitchen as a place of relaxation or even fun. Can you put a television in there? Can you play your favourite music? Can family members join you?
Don't be alone and unhappy in the kitchen. Make it a space you enjoy being in. Sing, chat to friends on speakerphone, and remember, you're learning and developing cookery skills that you can pass down to the next generation. Fall in love with your kitchen.
